Week 4: Transport, Temples, Markets & Local Etiquette
Goal
By the end of this lesson you can move around Chiang Mai more comfortably: talk to drivers, behave politely at temples and markets, ask for help, and understand common etiquette mistakes foreigners make.
1. Transport and directions

Temple behavior basics:
- remove shoes when signs or local behavior shows it
- dress modestly: shoulders and knees covered when needed
- do not point feet at Buddha images or monks
- speak softer than normal
- ask before taking photos in sensitive areas

5. Cultural shortcuts for expats

6. Graduation roleplay
The student must complete three scenes without notes:
- greet a neighbor or shop owner
- buy one item and ask the price
- tell a driver where to stop
Teacher gives feedback in three categories:
- pronunciation
- politeness
- confidence / speed
7. Real-life mission
Use Thai in one transport situation. If that feels too hard, record a voice note pretending to talk to a driver:
